Harry Wilcox

Harry Wilcox , CEO and Chairman, COO Flagship Pioneering

As COO and general partner at Flagship Pioneering, Harry is responsible for the operational management of Flagship, serves as a member of Flagship’s investment committee, and oversees the firm’s operations and LP relations/fundraising. He was a board member of Accuri Cytometers prior to its successful sale to Becton Dickinson and of Seahorse BioScience prior to its successful sale to Agilent Technologies. He also plays a role as board member or advisor to select portfolio companies and is currently a board member of Celexion, Seventh Sense Biosystems, T2 Biosystems (NASDAQ:TTOO), Quantum Designs, Inc (Chairman), Selventa, Inc., MidoriUSA (Acting CEO), HN Company, Inc. (Chairman and acting CEO), BG Medicine, Inc. and Be Power Tech.

Jerry A. Vergeer

Jerry A. Vergeer, President, JAV, Inc.

Jerry A. Vergeer is a management consultant to Midori. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer of Animal Nutrition at Nutreco N.V. and also served as Executive Board Member. Nutreco is a leading global Animal Nutrition and Aquaculture company, with 100 production facilities in 30 countries, including 8 R&D facilities and 10,000 employees. Prior to this role, he served as President of Maple Leaf Animal Nutrition at Maple Leaf Foods, a leading Canadian Food Processing company. He led the sale of Animal Nutrition to Nutreco in 2007. Jerry graduated from the University of Guelph (Canada) Agricultural Business Program and from the Agri-Food Executive Development Program.

J.M. Geremia

J.M. Geremia, Ph.D., Vice-President, Research & Development, Founder

J.M. Geremia has over 15 years experience in research, innovation, and technology development, including inventing Midori’s core catalyst technology and leading the development of its Glycaogen™ platform for the production of novel carbohydrates. Prior to co-founding Midori, Dr. Geremia worked on the sustainable production of bio-based chemicals with Boston-area start-up Codon Devices, Inc., and served on the faculty of the University of New Mexico, where he lead an internationally-recognized research group and received multiple awards, including a young investigator (CAREER) award from the National Science Foundation and commendations for excellence in teaching. Dr. Geremia received a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton University as a Hugh Scott Taylor Distinguished Fellow and an honors B.S. in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Delaware as a Eugene du Pont Distinguished Scholar. He is named as an author or inventor on over 80 scientific manuscripts, book chapters, patents, and patent applications.

Dr. Brian Baynes

Brian Baynes, Ph.D., Director and Founder

Brian is a founder of Midori and co-inventor of its core technology. He is a Partner at Flagship Ventures, which he joined in 2004, and is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for creating new ventures at the intersection of innovative science and problems of global scale. Previously, he co-founded bioengineering companies Celexion and Codon Devices, and worked closely with portfolio companies Adnexus, BG Medicine, and Epitome Biosystems. He also worked as an engineer at Mobil and ExxonMobil, and was a Lecturer in the MIT School of Chemical Engineering Practice at Mitsubishi Chemicals and General Mills. Brian holds a BChE from the University of Delaware, and received his PhD in chemical engineering from MIT, both in chemical engineering.

Kevin Murphy

Kevin Murphy, Director

Kevin Murphy has spent over 30 years in the packaged goods business and is widely known as a strong strategic marketer, specifically gaining extensive knowledge of the North American food industry while serving on management teams acknowledged as driving impressive corporate growth. In 1996, Promo Magazine named him Marketer of the Year for his dedication to building brand equity and for his creative drive in developing and supporting cutting edge consumer marketing programs. Brand Week Magazine named him a Marketer of the Year in 1998. Mr. Murphy was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the FPI Marketing and Value Added Group in February 2002, North America’s largest supplier of seafood to the Foodservice industry. Prior to joining FPI, Mr. Murphy spent two years as an owner/partner and Chief Executive Officer in Woolf Associates, a full-service sports and entertainment management and marketing firm representing hundreds of professional athletes as well as dozens of corporations – such as EMC, Verizon, John Hancock and Gillette. Mr. Murphy became a partner at Woolf Associates after nearly 21 years with Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc., from 1980 to 2001. At Ocean Spray, he most recently held the position of Chief Operating Officer of that US$1.5 Billion food and beverage company.
